How important is it to be tech-savy these days?

I know my grandma may not know why the tv can be paused and that you can record 2 different shows at the exact same time, but we are more and more often needing to know how to use this technology. To keep up with the latest info and new products you have to lean how to use it an what it all does. Do you think it is important to know just how to push the buttons or why those buttons do what they do?
